Forex and MACD Indicator

by Samo Yanezic

Did you know that using an MACD Indicator can help you strengthen the success rate of your forex trading strategy?

If you`re not familiar with the term already, MACD stands for Moving Average Convergence Divergence. This can assist you in deciding which trades have the best chance of being profitable for you and which you should trade short on or avoid altogether.

The foreign currency market is one which moves at a rapid pace. A trade which can do quite well for you at one moment can suddenly become a loss in the space of just a few hours.

Wherever possible its important to give yourself the biggest possible potential to minimize losses. By using an MACD Indicator you can actively track those currency pricings that look to be moving on an upward trend. You can also identify any currencies that are ending an upward trend and beginning to trend downward.

How Does the MACD-Indicator Work?

The MACD is made up of easy to understand moving average indicators. The signal line, or sometimes also called the water line shows an exponential moving average, or EMA, based on the closing prices for the previous 9 days trading.

There are two EMAs used to determine the trend of a particular currency. One is set for the previous 12 days figures and the other is set at the previous 26 days figures.

The MACD line may be above or below this EMA waterline. Based on where the EMA line falls, it indicates whether the currency you`re looking at is on the upswing or headed in the other direction.

Using A MACD Indicator For Forex Trading

Learning to watch the MACD movements on each of the different charts can increase your probability of entering a profitable trade. You should be able to access a four hour chart and a one hour chart that should show you in which direction the trend is moving.

By learning to watch both sets of charts you should be able to pin point which currencies are trending upwards and which are trending down. When both the 4 hour and the 1 hour MACDs are trending up your chances of entering a profitable trade are more likely.

Before placing any trades, you should consult your hourly chart to see how the MACD indicator is moving. If the MACD indicator is above the waterline, then you have better odds of making a profitable trade by going long.

No kind of investment is free of risk and a MACD indicator will help you with your trades the most effectively when used along with other tools. However, even the MACD indicator on its own can help you to maximize your profits and minimize risk compared to trying to make your trades without any help.

If youre looking for ways to help increase your success rates with your own forex trading strategies, then perhaps using an MACD indicator could be the ideal investment tool for you.
